“[A] delectable spooker spiced with romance…" –Publishers Weekly
“…a whopper of a ghost story … both savvy and chilling." —Booklist
CAN THIS MARRIAGE SURVIVE TWO HUSBANDS, ONE ALIVE, ONE NOT?
Award-winning chef Phil Randazzo, and his anthropologist wife, Michelle, are as happy as any newlyweds with five kids and a ton of history. But something’s eerily amiss.
They’ve been married less than a year and already there’s someone else--at least it’s starting to seem that way.
First Hendrix the cat’s developed a new trick, but how does a flesh-and-blood feline walk through walls? Maybe with help from his best friend on The Other Side? Then there was that dude Phil saw upstairs Thanksgiving Day. Only nobody was there. But the odd thing was that “nobody” looked exactly like Michelle’s dead husband, Cajun musician A.P. Savoie. Her really really handsome and much-missed dead husband. Who died all too suddenly.
Can it be he wants her back?
Harper creates a unique and spooky triangle in Cajun Sprit, yet many of its most rewarding thrills (chills too, if truth be told) come from the savvy story of newlyweds and stepfamilies feeling their way with the greatest good humor, yet seemingly thwarted despite all efforts. That could be any family, right? And that’s half the fun. Except that Michelle’s kids not only want their dad back…he’s there! And their psychic’s so creeped out he’s told Michelle not to call back.
Definitely not your average paranormal romance. This is a funny, warm, feel-good tale with enough literary heft and humor to stick to the ribs. It seems to have an almost…uncanny…way of keeping its loveable characters on your mind for weeks.
Fans of Alice Hoffman and good-humored, romantic ghost movies will love this one! Think THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR, JUST LIKE HEAVEN, and of course that classic heart-tugger, GHOST itself.
(Formerly titled The Year of Past Things and Ghost In The Bedroom)
Publisher's Note The author has since written a prequel, FIRE ON THE BAYOU, about Michelle's stormy relationship with the extremely hot and charismatic A.P. Savoie, and she's currently working on a prequel to the prequel--which is what makes this Book Three of the trilogy.
“There’s a genuine ghost story here, but it’s the human story that sets off shivers.” –San Francisco Chronicle
“What lifts Harper’s work above the ordinary ghostly romance, beyond its fine use of setting, is the intensity of these characters, their struggles to move on, to make new lives, all the while feeling the pull of the past, the longing to redeem the lost moment.” —The Times-Picayune
“Reminiscent of an episode from The Twilight Zone, this stylishly written novel uses in-depth characterizations and convincing detail to build in credibility before serving up a whopper of a ghost story. Harper makes good use of her atmospheric setting in a story that is both savvy and chilling." –Booklist
Love After Death The Jolie Blonde Series A Louisiana Trilogy Book 3 edition by MA Harper Paranormal Romance eBooks
Phil, the owner of an upscale restaurant in New Orleans, and his new wife Michelle have recently married blending their kids, her home, and their work together as a brand new family. Only a few months into their marriage, strange appearances by Michelle’s late husband, A. P. Savoie, who was a famous Cajun musician, begin to occur. Phil is haunted by visions of Savoie, which begins to take a toll on his health and their marriage. As the haunting images increase, Phil and Michelle are forced to consult psychics and even a Priest looking for answers to the horrifying occurrences. I could not wait to find out why Savoie was coming to them from beyond the grave.I found myself immersed into the life of this family in New Orleans, with just the right amount of Cajun spice and ghostly images thrown in. I was drawn to Michelle, as she was still dealing with the loss of her husband, and how it affected her and her children; even though she was newly married to Phil. The dynamics between Phil, Michelle, and the dead Savoie were especially enlightening to the story. It really made me think about the reach and depth of love between two people.
This family had realistic challenges just learning how to become their own family, let alone the paranormal activity that encircled them. The fact that the children all got along together made me want them to find success as a family. I found the step children endearing and loved how Michelle’s son wanted to follow in Phil’s footsteps at the restaurant when his own children did not have an interest.
Unfortunately, this book has several titles. I downloaded the Kindle version called, “Louisiana Ghost Story.” I understand the original title to be, “The Year of Past Things/Ghost in the Bedroom.” Now the book is listed as, “Cajun Spirit (The Jolie Blonde Series: A Louisiana Trilogy Book 3).” Get past the confusion with the title and you will find a great old fashioned Southern ghost story that will keep you guessing from start to finish.
I felt this was a story about the deepness of love shared between a family, and at the same time, about learning how to let go of things that are out of our control. I deeply cared about this family and what was happening to them. It was a joy watching them learn about forgiveness while they moved from the past into the future as a family together.
I absolutely loved the end of this book. I never saw it coming! On that note, I was also sad to let go of the characters. By the end, I felt like I had lived through this event with them, I was so emotionally involved in the plot.
I totally enjoyed the realistic haunting experience that Phil had. It was not portrayed as a Hollywood version of a horror movie. I was comfortable with that characterization because the story seemed so real and not really fiction at all. As the events unraveled in this ghost tale, I was instantly hooked and drawn in to the intrigue.
If you are a fan of old fashioned ghost stories, this book will enthrall you from beginning to end. Watching a family handle their grief, while learning how to love again was especially poignant and sweet, as they form their own special family unit.

Love After Death The Jolie Blonde Series A Louisiana Trilogy Book 3 edition by MA Harper Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Very good mystery/paranormal story.I was so surprised at the end. This kept me interested
from beginning to end.I see some reviewers felt it wasn't a romance or it was too 'wordy' ..
I felt it was a romance in the sense of some of the stuff going on here with Phil&Michelle with
their marriage. To me the place where it was 'wordy' was the restaurant description. I skipped a bit here then the dialogue pulled me back into concentrating again.
All the characters Michelle,Cam,Nicky,Phil,Nonnie,Warren- very good. The feelings Phil experienced with the Adrien encounters-the hidden video-his divorce&children...it was all good.
I liked Hendrix the cat .His being the focal point at the start was good.Michele's confusion & grief was some thing I could feel& found believable. One thing I didn't understand until the very end was how Phil had hurt Michelle&her kids.AT the end I went"ahhhh-I see ..okay."
I enjoyed this book & will keep it in my library to read again.
I loved this book, #3 in the Jolie Blonde series, just as I loved the two before it. Loved the setting, New Orleans, as well as the characters, some from the previous book, along with some new ones. The writing flows so smoothly and the story line and the people are captivating. Did not want to put it down. The writer handled the supernatural aspects in a believable manner, and I eapecially enjoyed the interactions with the Psychic. I highly recommend reading the 3 books in sequential order, to get the feel of the characters and their enduring love. Sad at times, but overall good endings. If you like romance, suspense and ghost stories, this is for you!
This paranormal novel is unlike your run-of-the-mill ghost story. The plot is well developed, well paced, draws you in, and pulls you through to the surprise ending. Often times, a paranormal story is so dependent on plot that the characters get short shrift. This is not the case with Harper's novel. Her characters have depth--good people behaving badly. The main characters are a blended family struggling to become whole. Each has issues from the past. The mother, Michelle, and her two children still grieve for her dead husband, a grief anchored by guilt. Philip, the husband and step-father of six months, is still puzzled why his first marriage failed. Also, despite being a five-star chef, he envies the creative talent of the dead iconic singer husband and resents the man's hold on his new family. They are real people experiencing doubts about their feelings for each other, holding back full commitment until the spirit of the dead husband gifts them with an example of true unconditional love that frees them. Harper has written a well-crafted story that takes the reader on a bumpy journey to understanding and peace. If you like well-written stories that touch you, I highly recommend this novel. --Val Stasik, author of Incidental Daughter
I loved the first book. The heroine could be stuck up, the hero could be hard headed, but you grew to love them and rooted for them to make it. Here's the thing, separate these two characters and it was hard to like either of them. That left the second book to come out so so.
In this third book, you don't really finish their story. You pick up a new character because the hero has died. What you end up with is a hot mess. It's a cozy mystery with paranormal edges. Without the hero, there isn't a lot of reasons to like the heroine and the new husband is at least better than the guys she let knock her around in the second book. He is a chef but he would rather check out of situations than make much of an effort. They are just hard to care about. It's nice to check in on the kids. Save your money and stop with the first one.
